GSP Nighthawks South Named Agency of the Year for Southeastern Traffic Enforcement Network

The ‘Nighthawks South’ Task Force within the Georgia Department of Public Safety was named the 2021 Agency of the Year for the Southeastern Traffic Enforcement Network last week.

The Nighthawks Task Force was initiated in October 2004 and GSP reports that members are the “most highly trained DUI law enforcement officers in Georgia.” The program is funded with a grant from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. Some of its supplemental funding also comes from H.E.A.T, the state’s Highway Enforcement of Aggressive Traffic program.

The Nighthawks South Team was deployed in 2009 and patrols the Savannah-Statesboro area in an effort to reduce the number of impaired driving crashes in the areas. The unit is assigned seven troopers.

TFC DiGiacomo was awarded the DUI Award.

TFC Lawrence was awarded the Distracted Driving Award.
