Tattnall County Receives Sizable Fire Safety Grant

Tattnall County received a sizable fire safety grant under a recent funding disbursement via federal agencies.

The funding was allocated through the Federal Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program, which provides funding to upgrade equipment, upgrade or purchase new vehicles, train firefighters, and more. The grants were announced by both U.S. Senators from Georgia, Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock.

“We are incredibly grateful to Senator Ossoff and his team for the work they’re doing to better communities in Georgia,” said Statesboro Mayor Jonathan McCollar. “The monies secured by Senator Ossoff in the Assistance to Firefighters Grant will be used for to replace equipment and continue wellness initiatives for the department. Roughly $75,000 will be allotted to purchase a new air cascade system that the department uses to fill its breathing apparatuses. Approximately $35,000 will fund the continuation of the department’s partnership with a local physician that provides customized preventative and wellness care for our firefighters. Ensuring the safety and well-being of our firefighters is essential to our mission to provide superior fire services for Statesboro, and we’re thankful to Senator Ossoff for helping us further this mission.”

“Firefighters across Georgia put their lives on the line to keep families safe,” Sen. Ossoff said. “I will never stop championing Georgia’s heroic fire departments, and these resources will help them respond to emergencies that threaten lives and property.”
