EGSC Softball Team begins scrimmage season with three victories

The East Georgia State College Softball Team began their Fall scrimmage season with three victories over Carolina Elite on Sunday, September 26.

The first two games were varsity scrimmage games. The Bobcats dominated on the mound and with their bats winning the first scrimmage 13 to 1 and the second 10 to 0. Leading the way for the Bobcats were freshmen pitchers Cierra Kinlaw and Ashleigh Miles. They each got the start in both games allowing no runs in six innings of work with EGSC standout pitchers from a year ago Britney Foster and Mattie Cash closing the games in the final innings of both game one and two. At the plate freshmen center fielder Madelyn Maynard went 3 for 4 on the day in game one followed by Summer Alexander, McKenzie Wilkerson, and Dani Wells each having two hit performances in game one. The Bobcats scored 13 runs in five scrimmage innings in game one for the win.

In game two Katilina Losolla led the way at the plate with three hits and four RBI’s. Tabitha Mimbs, Ashleigh Miles, and Grace Dowdy each added two hits each as the Bobcats cruised to a 10 to 0 victory!

The Bobcat JV team won the final scrimmage of the day with a final inning walk off score to win 5 to 4. Scoring the winning run was freshman Jordan Bell on a perfect bunt play by Taylor Frye. Haley White had two doubles in the scrimmage for the team, with Raegan Sterrett driving in three of the Bobcat’s five RBI’s.

“Our varsity squad played really well in the first two scrimmages. We committed no errors and pounded out 23 runs in two scrimmages with 23 hits. We pitched really well, played tremendous defense behind our pitchers, and had an overall solid day of ball,” said Head Coach Chuck Wimberly.

When asked about the JV scrimmage, Wimberly added, “our freshmen pitched really well, and we made some great plays in the field, but also made some freshman mistakes that we will need to clean up in order to be good in the future. The good thing about our JV scrimmage was the way we competed to get the scrimmage win in the bottom of the last inning.”

The Bobcat’s next contest will be next weekend on Friday, October 1, as the JV Bobcats travel to Savannah State to play, while the Varsity Lady Bobcats travel to Fort Valley State on Sunday, October 3
