Georgia U.S. Senators Jon Ossoff and Reverend Raphael Warnock announced last week that more than $175 million in new funding they secured for Georgia’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities through the American Rescue Plan.
The announcement comes in addition to the nearly $85 million Sens. Ossoff and Warnock announced for Georgia HBCUs in May.
The two are self-proclaimed “champions for Georgia’s HBCUs” and say they led the push in the U.S. Senate to ensure HBCUs had equitable access to federal COVID-19 relief funds in the form of direct grants.
“I will never stop working on behalf of Georgia’s HBCUs. Sen. Rev. Warnock and I are pleased to deliver this additional funding for HBCUs as they prepare for this upcoming school year and continue to help students recover from the COVID-19 pandemic,” Ossoff said in the press release.
“As an HBCU graduate, I am grateful to see additional funding flow to HBCUs in Georgia to help them continue opening doors of possibility and opportunity for the bright minds of the next generation,” said Warnock. “I was proud to work alongside Senator Ossoff to secure these funds for the faculty, staff and students who continue to excel at these institutions, and will keep fighting to strengthen federal support for our HBCUs in Georgia and beyond.”
