Former Republican Lt. Gov Geoff Duncan Joins CNN

Geoff Duncan, former Lieutenant Governor of Georgia, joined CNN Tuesday for his first day as an on-air political commentator.

According to a press release from CNN, Duncan will focus on national politics.

“Duncan joins CNN after spending the last 10 years in elected office in Georgia as a Republican, serving as the state’s 12th Lieutenant Governor after six years in the Georgia House of Representatives.

Prior to entering politics, Duncan spent six seasons in the minor league system of the Florida Marlins’ organization. After a shoulder injury forced his early retirement from baseball in 2001, Duncan enjoyed a successful private sector career focused on health care, marketing and technology. Duncan is the author of the recently published book titled, “GOP 2.0: How the 2020 Election Can Lead to a Better Way Forward for America’s Conservative Party.”

The response to Duncan’s news Tuesday was mixed. Replying to a post he made on Twitter where Duncan said “Day #1 in the books! Looking forward to continuing to share my conservative opinion with America.” he received replies such as:

“Figures, no wonder you did that stunt with going to vote and not pulling the lever. That was your audition!”
“Disappointed that you chose CNN”
“Sorry but conservatives in Georgia have not forgotten you turning your back on the GOP and helping elect Warnock.”
“Only CNN would consider you conservative…”
“We need less “opinion” on cable tv and more journalism. Every hour is filled with punditry.”

Duncan will be based in Georgia.
