Georgia Southern senior Brandon Moore has been named the 16th Annual Mr. Georgia Southern University. Moore is a psychology major from Adrian, Georgia. The competition was held on April 7 in the Russell Union Ballroom on the Statesboro Campus.

He said it means the world to him to be awarded this title, but his heart was heavy while reflecting on what it means to him.

“I felt extremely honored and sad at the same time,” Moore said. “Honored because I am honored to serve and sad because I only wish my grandmother were living to see this moment. I made my grandmother a promise on her dying bed that I would go back to college and finish my degree. So, I want to dedicate this crown to my late grandmother Ruth Marion Moore.”

With the win, he received a $1,000 scholarship and gifts from the competition’s sponsors. The sponsors for this year’s competition were ON TIME Fashions, Kingdom Cuts, Sir Shop and GSU Store Awards South.

While Moore walked away with the crown, he was not the only participant to win an award during the annual competition that gives students a chance to showcase their talents. There were other elements including spirit wear, lifestyle and fitness, talent, formal wear, and on-stage question. These winners were, respectively:

  • People’s Choice: John Jennings
  • Lifestyle and Fitness: Kennijah Martin and Christopher Castro
  • Talent: Christopher Castro
  • Spirit Wear: 4-way tie with all the candidates
