School administrators and the Rome City Schools Board of Education started 2022 with a packed agenda.
Superintendent of RCS, Louis Byars, had several items of business he presented to the Board for discussion, including the first reading of the 2022-2023 proposed school calendar.
Board members voted to approve the new school calendar which can be found on the system website.
The Board also elected a new Chairperson and Vice Chairperson who will now serve as leadership. The Board Chair is Jill Fisher and the Vice Chair is Will Byington after unanimous votes from RCS Board members.
Also, one of the largest items of business was the RCS resolution for the ESPLOST set for a vote in May of this year. Byars said the largest portion of funds from the ESPLOST would be used for building a new Rome Middle School, a project that will help the system alleviate a growing elementary and middle school populations. Byars also said that the system would move all sixth-grade students to the new middle school and alleviate the pressure of a growing student population at the elementary schools.
RCS also updated the COVID-19 Decision Matrix with information advised by the Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH). The update is consistent with the communication from Governor Kemp’s office and DPH. The updated COVID-19 Decision Matrix can be found on the system’s website.
