$350,000 Disaster Recovery Grant Provides Funding to Update Emergency Plans

At their May 4, 2021, regular meeting, the Camden County Board of Commissioners accepted a $350,000 Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) Planning Grant from the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA).

This funding will be used for updating Camden County’s Local Emergency Operation Plan and several of its components, including a Flood Response and Resiliency Plan, Debris Management Plan, Pandemic Plan, and Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD) Plan. This is in addition to updates to the Continuity of Operations and Continuity of Government Plans.

“We are pleased to receive this assistance from the DCA,” said Emergency Management Director Chuck White. “This funding will directly support community preparedness by ensuring we have up-to-date actionable emergency plans necessary to handle future disasters.”

DCA set aside over $4 million to be used for mitigation planning activities within the fifteen counties declared eligible for FEMA’s Individual and Public Assistance (IA and PA). Planning funds are intended to be used on sound, sustainable long-term recovery planning informed by a pre-and post-disaster evaluation of hazard risks. Camden County became eligible for this funding following the damage caused by Hurricane Irma in 2017. Updates to these plans are part of Camden County’s 2021-2026-2036 Strategic Plan.
