Kemp Appoints Ayers as Jenkins County State Court Judge

Governor Brian Kemp has appointed Millen attorney Duff Ayers to serve as the next state court judge of Jenkins County.

The announcement was made Thursday after Ayers was sworn in in Atlanta.

Ayers will replace State Court Judge R. Hubert Reeves III who announced his resignation earlier this year and stepped down from the bench effective July 1, 2021.

The Judicial Nominating Commission recommended Ayers for the State Court position on May 7 when it also presented a list of individuals to be considered by Governor Kemp in Henry County and the Griffin Judicial Circuit.

Ayers has been serving as the county’s part-time Solicitor General since January 2017 after he ousted incumbent Troy A. Gay in the 2016 election.

Ayers will serve through December 31, 2022 to complete Reeves’ term and the nonpartisan position will appear on the nonpartisan ballot during the 2022 primary elections.
