Carlton Lewis Alexander, Jr./Bibb County Sheriff's Office

On Thursday, April 29, 2021, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested by the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office to conduct an officer involved shooting investigation.

Preliminary information indicates that at 10:45 p.m., the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the Pleasant Hill area after reports of shots being fired. When the deputy arrived in the area, a vehicle was seen traveling at a high rate of speed on Walnut Street. The deputy initiated his emergency lights and attempted a traffic stop but the driver failed to stop. A pursuit ensued and the vehicle drove up on a curb and ultimately came to a stop in the middle of Riverside Drive. The driver, identified as Carlton Lewis Alexander, Jr., age 35, of Macon, GA, exited the vehicle and began shooting at the deputy, striking the deputy’s vehicle four times on the driver’s side. The deputy returned fire, striking Alexander in the leg. The deputy was not injured during the incident.

Deputies performed first aid on Alexander until EMS arrived. Alexander was transported to Atrium Health Navicent in Macon, GA, where he received treatment for his injury. Alexander was released from the hospital and was booked into the Bibb County Jail. Alexander is being charged with:

  • Aggravated Assault
  • Possession of a Firearm by a Felon
  • Possession of a Firearm During a Commission of a Crime
  • Criminal Damage to Property
  • Possession of Stolen Property

The GBI will conduct an independent investigation. Upon completion, it will be turned over to the Macon Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review.
