(The Center Square) – The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs announced Thursday it housed 47,925 veterans experiencing homelessness in fiscal year 2024, besting an earlier goal.
That’s the largest number of veterans experiencing homelessness the federal agency has housed since fiscal year 2019 and 16.9% over its goal of 41,000.
The VA said it ensured that 96% of the veterans housed during this time did not return to homelessness.
VA has made housing veterans a top priority. Since fiscal year 2022, VA has permanently housed nearly 134,000 homeless veterans. The total number of veterans experiencing homelessness in the U.S. has fallen by more than 4% since early 2020 and by more than 52% since 2010, according the agency.
“Nearly 48,000 formerly homeless veterans now have a safe, stable place to call home – and there’s nothing more important than that,” VA Secretary Denis McDonough said in a statement. “No veteran should experience homelessness in this nation they swore to defend. We are making real progress in this fight, and we will not rest until veteran homelessness is a thing of the past.”
The agency also reported specific progress in the Los Angeles area, where the largest share of homeless veterans live. The agency permanently housed 1,854 homeless veterans in the area in fiscal year 2024, the most of any city in America for the third year in a row.

That number is not right even if it is? Out of 75,000 Veterans it must have been all blacks in Geto apts. Because in my state tennessee city memphis, there are no places for anyone to go that are safe enough for whites people to live. I have been homeless for 20.years the blacks always get all the places to live. And if you take one in the geto poor area the blacks will agervate you until you leave by stealing your stuff out of you apt. Less than 1,000 housed per state that is nothing compared to 135,000.
The way to solve Homelessness is to change the 3 times the rent rule to no rent rule. In Memphis,Tn you have to have 2,700 dollars coming in to get a $800 to $900 dollar apt. Thats 3 times the rent 2,400 to 2,700 dollars.Change the Rule to say if you have the amount of the rent coming in then you can rent anywhere you like. oh no the Rich can’t let that happen they want live with the poor. It’s descrimation it’s apartive like in south africa.
Change the Rent rule of 3 times the Rent, to no rule if you have good credit and the amount of the rent coming in you can rent where ever you want.
Why are we still living in a state of apartive like in south africa? Where because you have 3 times the rent is the only way you can rent in memphis,Tn.The whites keep their selfs seperrated from the blacks with money. The Veteran gets caught up in that decrimation. Because he dose not have $2,400 to $2,700 a month coming in for a $800 to $900 dollar apt.
