Ogeechee Technical College President Lori Durden recently swore in Nathan Tirey as the college’s new Director for Campus Safety and Security/Chief of Police. Bringing over 15 years of law enforcement experience to his new position, Tirey will be the fifth police chief in the college’s history.
OTC maintains a Georgia Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) certified police agency which is responsible for law enforcement at all of the College’s campuses and centers. “I am excited to have Nathan join our team at OTC, he has had a successful career that is defined by service and excellence,” said OTC President Lori Durden.
Tirey began his law enforcement career as an officer with the Savannah Chatham Metropolitan Police Department before he spent 14 years as an officer, sergeant, and lieutenant, at Savannah Technical College. A certified First Aid and CPR instructor, Tirey has spent time teaching specialized courses in active shooter preparedness, tactical medical response, and crisis intervention, fostering collaboration with law enforcement agencies through innovative scenario-based training.
An accomplished professional, Tirey holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and is a graduate of several esteemed programs, including the Crisis Intervention Team Program, the Georgia Chiefs Executive Program, and the Northwestern University Center for Public Safety School of Police Staff and Command. His contributions to law enforcement and public safety were recently recognized when he was commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel, an honorary title awarded for significant community impact.
Tirey has been married for 15 years and has one child.
