Ogeechee Tech Employees “Wear A Pair” For The Teal House

Last week, Ogeechee Technical College employees participated in “Wear a Pair for the Teal House” where they wore red high heels in support of the international Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event being held today at Georgia Southern. Among the participants were Dr. Ryan Foley, Executive VP for Student and Academic Affairs; Alex Harris, a Business Management Instructor; and Sean Payne, Executive Director for Public Relations and Marketing.

“I participated Walk a Mile several years ago for the first time and have been a big supporter since,” said Payne. “My hope is that each year this event can further educate our community on the long list of issues surrounding sexual assault and gender violence as well as provide support for its survivors.”

Walk-a-Mile in Her Shoes is an international event that is designed to get local communities talking about sexual assault and gender violence and asks male-identified community members to wear a pair of red high-heels in support of the cause. The “Wear a Pair for the Teal House” photo initiative was set up by the Georgia Southern SART (Sexual Assault Response Team) for those who could donate to, but not physically attend, the Walk-a-Mile event held April 6.

“With limited fundraising opportunities and the increasing need for service, COVID-19 greatly affected sexual assault centers worldwide. Wear a Pair is an opportunity to show some support to our local sexual assault center, while also raising awareness regarding sexual assault,” said Molly Bickerton, a Teal House board member and Ogeechee Tech Director of Admissions.

All proceeds are donated to the Teal House: Statesboro Regional Sexual Assault and Child Advocacy Center.
