South Georgia Tormenta FC has acquired striker Niki Jackson on loan from USL Championship side San Diego Loyal. Jackson was selected 73rd overall in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft by the Colorado Rapids after a successful collegiate career with Grand Canyon University and is eligible to play this Saturday as Tormenta FC travels to battle Greenville Triumph SC.
Still searching for his first goal of 2021, Jackson has made three starts and five appearances for San Diego, recording six shots with three on target, two tackles and one clearance.
The forward made 19 MLS appearances for the Colorado Rapids, scoring three goals and recording 16 shots. Jackson’s professional début was in February 2018 during a CONCACAF Champions League game against Toronto FC. He later scored his first career MLS goal against the New England Revolution.
In an exceptional collegiate career with Grand Canyon University, Jackson tallied 41 goals and nine assists in 69 appearances. He was the program’s second-ever MLS SuperDraft pick and was named WAC Offensive Player of the Year in 2016.
Tormenta FC embarks on a challenging two-match road stretch against Greenville Triumph SC and Forward Madison FC before heading home to host New England on Saturday, Aug. 21 for the Back to School Bash. The club will then close out the month with Community Appreciation Night on Saturday, Aug. 28, featuring the Dancing with the Statesboro Stars and benefitting Safe Haven, a local organization supporting those affected by domestic violence.
