A Georgia woman will soon stand trial for felony murder against the same prosecutors who once sent her abuser to prison for violently assaulting her. In the Ashlyn Griffin Story, she shot and killed her boyfriend, Brandon McCray in June 2020.
She voluntarily gave statements to law enforcement after the shooting, videoed a re-enactment at the scene with detectives, and then provided a written statement of her account. She told them it was self-defense, that he was abusing her as he’d done repeatedly in the past.
Authorities, however, didn’t buy the story. Consequently, Griffin was arrested and charged with Murder and now awaits to be judged by a jury of her peers.
Chief Assistant District Attorney Barclay Black argued that Ashlyn Griffin should not be immune from prosecution. He said her claims of self defense did not reach the threshold of an affirmative defense. Citing a 2009 case, Black said that Ashlyn Griffin had to admit to “the crime” and that she failed to make her defense when she testified that she didn’t mean to kill Brandon McCray.
What do you think: Was it murder? Or self-defense?

It was definitely SELF DEFENSE! I hope and pray she is found not guilty. I can not begin to imagine these people who are trying to convict her of murder. Mr. McCray got what he deserved.
Sorry, but it was her own fault to returning back to that relationship with full awareness of his abusive patters/behaviours. She should have known what to expect and acted accordingly by making sure she wasn’t putting her self at risk to harm or be harmed but she didn’t. Maybe because of her attachments to him but regardless that’s a poor excuse to remain in a relationship knowing something dangerous could occur which it happened to be her that caused it.
I hope the good Lord never humbles you for that narrowminded perspective.
