EGSC Softball Team defeats Fort Valley State in scrimmage games

The East Georgia State College Lady Bobcats Softball Team defeated Fort Valley State in three scrimmages Sunday, October 3. The Bobcats, who are now 5 and 0 in varsity scrimmages for the Fall, defeated Fort Valley by scores of 5 to 1, 5 to 0 and 4 to 1.

In the first scrimmage Bobcat freshman pitcher Cierra Kinlaw struck out 11 batters, had no walks, and allowed just two hits in five innings of work. At the plate to give run support to Kinlaw was Ashleigh Miles, Makenzie Wilkerson, Summer Alexander, Madelyn Maynard, and Alexis McQuaig. Defensively Dani Wells and McKenzie Wilkerson had stellar performances.

In the second scrimmage, sophomore pitcher Britney Foster struck out 13 batters in five innings, allowed just two hits, and walked one batter in a 5 to 0 scrimmage win. Emma Rush, Kolbie Motes, Stephanie Ruffin, Bailey Davis, Erica Semler, Alyssa Barbrick, Tabitha Mimbs, and Gracie Dowdy all had hits for the Bobcats in the second scrimmage.

Mattie Cash and Ashleigh Miles went to the hill in the final scrimmage of the day to get the victory for the Lady Bobcats at 4 to 1. They both struck out three batters each and allowed just two hits each. Tabitha Mimbs, Emma Kirk, and Katilina Losolla led the way at the plate for the team in the scrimmage win.

“We scrimmaged a really good, well coached four-year college team who has been in the top of their conference over the past five years, and for us to come in and compete like we did, pitch like we did, and hit like we did today, it just speaks volumes to our Lady Bobcats work ethic and practice routines paying off against a quality opponent,” said Head Softball Coach Chuck Wimberly. “These are just scrimmages and you must continue to learn and grow with each scrimmage experience, but as far as an overall perspective, we had an overall great experience.”
